Camponogara

Luoghi da visitare (de)

Facebook

The ancient Latin name for Camponogara, field of the walnut trees, Campus Nugarium, derives from the fact that this part of the countryside had many orchards, especially of walnut. It is a pleasant, still mainly farming town, more so than other centres of the area, as can be seen from the many farming-related businesses, the local wine-producers' co-operative, and the names of the districts: Premaore (large meadow), Prozzolo (Preadidiolum, small farm estate), and Campoverardo (Eberhard's field, a German who arrived perhaps in the 7th century AD). The pretty countryside was much loved by the Venetian nobles who built numerous splendid residences here, some noteworthy examples still standing, especially villa Bembo and Villa Sargenti.
