The palace, reopened on the 20th of December 2008, represents a very precious and international novelty for the city of Venice for what concerns the peculiarity of the architecture, the decorations and for the history that characterized its vicissitudes.

Antonio Grimani, at the beginning of the XIV century, gives his children the house da stazio: the compound will be completed thanks to his nephew Giovanni, patriarch of Aquileia, and his brother Vettore, San Marco’s prosecutor. The heirs themselves are likely to have taken part into the project and into the decoration of the palace.
The architecture we can admire today at last, melts some roman elements toghether with the Venetian environment: the Tribuna is particularly stiking, which was the seat of the beautiful archaeological collection owned my Giovanni, the couryard, the only one for the city of Venice, and the beautiful stair at the entrance.
The paintings are really wonderful. As for the architecture, the Grimani family turns to some artists with the Italian school training: Giovanni da Udine, Francesco and Giuseppe Salviati, Camillo Mantovano and Federico Zuccari.
All this make the Palazzo Grimani a unique building for the history of Venice and for its architecture, fascinating for its cultural, artistic and historical aspect, and, once the restoration has been ended, it can be at last opened as a museum of itself with some selected works of art, highly significant of the taste of the XIV century.
