Towns of the Land of the Tiepolos

itinerari

Facebook

We could define the Mirano area as 'The Tiepolo lands' because that celebrated family of artists is an example of the longing for the light and the silence of the countryside, and for its fertile landscape. It was not meant to substitute the sea (to whom Venice was wed) but to open new historical horizons. Many nobles and Venetians of good standing followed the same path as the Tiepolo family, making the area what it is today. Now a Centre for Tiepolo Studies and Research has been founded at Villa Morosini-xxv Aprile at Mirano that exalts that human and artistic presence, placing the fruit of its research at the disposition of cultural bodies worldwide. What remains of the work of the Tiepolo, is their great country house at Zianigo, the frescoes of the parish church of Mirano by Giambattista Tiepolo, thealtarpiece and the ceiling by Giandomenico in the church at Zianigo, and one other fresco nearby in Villa Bianchini. History, we were saying, these 'lands of the Tiepolo' are surely an extension of the Serenissima, and in fact have reflected Venice since the most distant epoch of the Republic of the Lion: not only its society, but its customs, the season, the holiday style of life free of daily care and toil and, at the same time, entrepreneurial boldness and a taste for having their houses designed and decorated by grand artists.
